I bought a couple Crucials last year and they both broke. I thought that maybe the Cumara would be better. I guess not though Why can't they make a rod that doesn't break?
How many people do you know that had a Cumara break? I thought they just came out.

I've got a Crucial that I think I am going to get rid of because it just doesn't feel right in my hands. I was thinking of getting a Cumara, but I don't think I will now. Really like the Kistlers that I have, but have heard the Helium 2's break a lot and quite often. Not sure that is what I am looking for either. Maybe I will jsut end up buying Loomis rods. I like different styles though, noe foregrip with a split rear grip, so maybe I will look at the Powell rods also. Looked into the Carrot Stix and they seem to be substandard rods, nicer looking than performing. We'll see. So many decisions, so little time and money!

Try a Powell Rod |
|
Hey, if you guys have not heard of Powell Rods I think that you might want to take a look at them. We offer the same guarentee that GLoomis and others offer but at about 1/2 the price most of our rods retail for $169-$199.
To answer the question on why rods break? Well this is a little more complex, to make is simple lets look at the extremes the 1st being the ugly stick that was unbreakable and the 2nd being an of your high end sensitive graphite blanks. What happens is that the more sensitive that you make the rod the more it is susceptable to both the elements and handeling. Most of the high quality rods will take some mild abuse but a small imperfection in the process or manufacturing of the rod can cause multiple issues with the same model of rods. Shimano rods are manufactured in China and they are probably going through some issues with making sure that they get the same quality.
We have Powell in Al & Bobs in Grand Rapids, They will be going in at Lunkers and possibly D&R and a few other select places.
Also Jackall is going to be releasing some new items this next year including Japanese High End Fishing Rods, now I will warn you that these rods will not be cheap (somewhere between $380-$500) they are going to be technique specific rods and if they are like any of the megabass rods (Destroyer) and they will ! then they will be worth the price. Along that same line (speaking of line) Jackall is going to be releasing new line this next year both florucarbon and nylon, this is not line made in the U.S. with the Japanese name but made in Japan and shipped in. This line will be somewhat similar to the SNIPER, SHOOTER line from SUN LINE. Any who have used this line and read the tackle test know that it might not be the strongest but by far has the lowest strech this will most likely be priced in the ($20-$30) range I will let you know when and where the availibility is and when the price is locked in.

Justin,
Yes, I agree the price seems a little steep. I will be getting them in sometime this summer and when I do I will let you know and you can try one and see if you like it. I am sure that I can pull a string and get it to you for cost since you a frined of mine.
