I need a little info from thoose who know please. My family and I are spending a week in Douglas Mich. the end of June this year. I have 7 grand kids that I don't get to see that often and have a 18ft lund that I want to take the younger ones fishing in. What I need to know is , are their any in land lakes or rivers near Saugatuck or Douglas with in a hours drive , that I can take a couple of them at a time to catch pan fish , or eye's or what ever. All catch and release. I wount be takeing them on Lake Michigan in the boat, but if there's a pier to catch perch from that would be fun with all of them at the same time. Also any one have a favorite bait shop in the area? Thanks for your help.

I've goose hunted the K-zoo river right off of I96 by douglas/Saugatuck but haven't fished it. I have heard there are plenty of fish in there though. There are a lot of nice back water areas there. There is a nice launch there and a nice park for a picnic. I would just do a yahoo local search for bait/tackle stores. Good luck.

Can't help with the bait shop but I can give a lake recommendation. Probably the best in-land lake in the Saugatuck area is Hutchins Lake. It's approximately 10 miles or so from Saugatuck and has some good sized bluegills and crappie. It is fairly populated though and sees a lot of jet-ski / ski-boat traffic during the day.

Here is the dnr map of the lake in .pdf format: http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/SPATIALDATALIBRARY/PDF_MAPS/INLAND_LAKE_MAPS/ALLEGAN/HUTCHINS_LAKE.PDF

Here is a map of the area:

There are also an number of other lakes a little further to the SSE that are all probably within 30-45 minutes of Saugatuck.

Thanks guy's; now if I can just find a bait shop in the area ,I'll make the kids happy. I'm also thinking of Allegan lake, in that county.

Go here for closest Bait/Tackle shops.

Arrow http://local.yahoo.com/pmaps;_ylt=ArBv9qY3omtDwF7GNo7S9H2HNcIF?stx=tackle+%26+bait&csz=Douglas%2C+MI+49406&begin=1&radius=25&ed=LIokJa131DwVLU.mBpYCTwjfvyHitEMAQ4uYFRwiYLzRkzoYJ_VT_YZK&f=&src=srp

You can get bait ahead of time and keep it in a cooler. As long as you keep it cold it will last a very long time. Smile

Thanks for the list.

I believe that JC's, #1 on that list, is no longer in business though in case anyone is ever in the South Haven area and thinking about stopping there. I'll try to confirm it and update this post.
