As many of you know I am running the wild card out of Muskegeon Lake on Sept. 20th but I have had people concerned since they did not understand what is happening with the BAU.

So here is the deal, if you have fished a division (at least 1 tournament) you are eligble for the wild card fish off and we will be taking the top 50% of the field to the classic. (So if we have 20 boats, 10 will qualify.)

The only other way to qualify if to be in the top 50% of your division and you must have fished 2 tournaments in that division.

Many anglers are still wanting to qualify and I want to allow them this opportunity and in order to do that, I am willing to throw 2 more tournaments to allow guys to qualify for the classic. Now I talked to Jay tonight and he said it was up to me to determine what lakes and when to put these on. Now here is the kicker, I do not want to throw a tournament for 2 boats as this is not fun for anyone involved, and this also will take time away from me spending quality time with my little girl so here is what I will do.

First off I want you guys to tell me what lakes, then I want to see a minimum of 8 boats but I would like to see 15-20 so I do not know how we have to do this. At the tournament this way at least 4 teams will qualify for the classic with the 8 boat Minimum.

Here is my suggestion of lakes
1. Paw Paw
2. Muskegeon
3. Klinger
4. Gun
5. Gull
6. Magician
7. Grand River
8. White
9. Cadallic

I would like to do one on Paw Paw & one on Muskegeon or both on Muskegeon as Muskegeon lake typically draws a crowd, so you guys tell me what we want to do if your interested.

Remember I want to make

Also the big kicker is that we have to do both of before the wild card.

Check with your friends
1. Chuck Nearpass
2. Bob Lutke
3. Brian Spear
4. Mike Rapette
5. Mike Bingaman
6. Brian Lieberg

as you guys know there are plenty of good anglers that would want to fish for a boat for what $250 (for both tournaments).

Let me know.

Rich

I even suggested to Justin that we do a double qualifier at his Paw Paw tournament so you basically enter both tournaments and your weight counts for both tournaments (this allows you to qualify during a tournament that you might already be fishing.) any thoughts on that? He said that was ok to run them togather.

99% sure I would not be interested in a double tourney Saturday, but that is a financial issue.
I find it kind of hard to believe that the BAU is not going to take more than 50% of their participants, but are willing to allow a few more tournaments to be held in order to qualify more boats. Sounds like 2 issues here to me:

1) You're not being very loyal to the people that set themselves up to fish it at the beginning of the year, by allowing others in this late in the season but not allowing the ones that didn't qualify.

2) Sounds like you may be having a problem gettign that 50-55 boat minimum that you need. Why else would you allow more tournaments to be run this late in the season.

I plan on going to the second chance tournament on the 20th. It's more for a chance to go to Leelanau again than for the boat, because onestly I wouldn't be surprised if the boat doesn't materialize. I guess it's more out of revenge. Unless BAU pulls it head out of it's ... next year, I won't be fishing it again either. Seems like too many things are done last minute, allowed last minute, and too many people have their hands in the cookie jar. If you guys want the best of the best to fish your trail and have your numbers high, organize it early enough for people to get in their schedules, and have it planned out. Leave it alone after that, don't keep changing rules and making new divisions, and switching up this and that. I hate unorganization at that level. If I don't make it at Muskegon, then it wasn't meant to be. My 2 cents.

1 Jav,

You are looking for the black cloud on a sunny day, the only reason I offered to throw another tournament is to provide anglers who did not know about the BAU the opportunity to qualify. Again you are thinking that I am getting some huge reward for offering to due this, and that is not the case I just heard people wanting to fish and know that they would have to drive to Coldwater and Muskegeon. So I talked to Jay and he said that if I wanted to due it I could but he said make sure that there is enough interest or I would be wasting my time. So that is the only reason that I even offered it.

Yes we have the 50% that we need and we are sticking to that and we will have a boat at the classic, and yes we will be back next year again.

What we would like is constructive comments and remarks on how we can improve not things like we wont be around. We want to make this a tournament trail for everyone and we need to know what you guys want and that is how we can deliver the best to you. Work with us and help us grow to your tournament trail, where we get 75 boats a tournament and we have huge paybacks and give away boats and cash at the classic. That is what we need from everyone consturctive comments and we will listen.

Rich

Black cloud, huh?
Organization. There is my costructive comment. Have a schedule before everyone's schedule is made. More than 2 tournaments would be nice, then you wouldn't have the deal like me on ours, where we come in last, know we can't salvage it, and don't fish the second. I have no problem with you Rich or with Jay and the BAU, I just don't see things from your point of view. I'll be at Muskegon on the 20th to qualify, and then I'll be at Leelanau. I plan on making some moves next year, as you all know, and if the BAU can't come up with more organized plans, then I won't consider it an option for me. Not that one boat makes or breaks the deal, but it sounds like a few others have the same agenda. I hope you make it. I hope you become the best darn tournament trail in Michigan, because for the input, it's the best return already. A little organization though could go a long way. Which reminds me, I have called Jay a dozen times now, left 2 messages, and got 0 phone calls in return. Over a week now. If you post your number for questions, answer the phone. That's what they were made for. Mad So to ask you, wha is the off-limit period for Leelanau? Is it the week before with practice days again or what?

My 2 cents. Set the schedule and don't change it. I don't think it's fair to the people that have made the classic to add more tournements after the fact so more people can make the classic. If I sign up for a trail, make the classic and am fishing against 50 guys, then late in the season it changes to fishing against 75 guys in the classic, I would not be happy about it. My opinion is to get the the classic by merrit, not second chance offerings that are designed to get everyone involved into the classic. If I fish two tournements and dont make the top 50%, why be able to fish one more and still only have to make the top 50% on just that tournement.

Second opinion if you have a tournement on Muskegon, have it on Muskegon. Make running to a different lake off-limits.

Third, make every tournemnet have an off limits period for a full week prior to the tournement to even up the field for weekend people that can't spend all week on the lake before a tournement. This eliminates fishing against guides and people that are full time fisherman that fish for a living.

Skeeter190, sorry I did not get your message until late. We are not making it a double wammy as I did not get any interest from anyone. Yes I agree that BAU has to get more organized and we are working on that, We are planning on making some new changes in next years format and we will have the schedules posted earlier. I do not know why Jay has not called you back 1Jav as I have talked to him 4 times this week, if you have a question let me know what it is and I will be sure to get the anwser. I have promised to let people that contact me that fished my divisions to let them know if they made the cut and the 2 boats that fished that did not make the cut have both been notified about the second chance tournament.

TritonTR20, I agree with many of your suggestions and I will bring them up during the meetings, Just everyone understand we can not please everyone but we will try to please the majority.

Loomis, If this is who I think it is; I will contact your director this weekend and make sure that you have made it. From what I seen in your standings I think you did but I will have to confirm with Chris. He also said you can give him a call.

I will find out about the off limits on the classic as that is a good question, the only other thing is to let all of you know that read this that we have rooms available at the casino for $53 a night.

If anyone has questions please give me a call as I will try to get anwsers to your concerns and questions.

$53 a night!!! I think I can do that, even though last year we stayed at Motel 8 for $120 for three nights. It was right next door to Hooters though, and anyone that knows the story or my tolerance for alcohol knows that I won't be staying there again. Do you have an idea of how many boats will be at the Muskegon tournament? Is this going to be the same results for the East side guys also?

1Jav

Congrats Justin and Jr. for another fine Paw Paw win.

I will find out what Casino the rooms are at and find out how they are blocked out for the tournament. I think if you do a search for casinos up by Traverse City you will probably find it, if I do not get it to you first.

I have been busy at work and will try to get things taken care of for you guys. I am expecting to see a few of you guys at Muskegeon and we will take 50% of the field. If boats that have already qualified for the classic show up to fish that is fine they will not take spots if they made it in thier division.

Anyone with questions please give me a call or PM me and I will try to get things taken care of for you.

Rich

Question?
If 20 boats show up, and 5 have already made the Classic, are you taking the next 10 that haven't made it, in essence only leaving out the lowest 5 that didn't make it already? Hard to follow? Just trying to make sure of what I need going in. I still plan on winning, but it's nice to know. Is the Lake going to be open?

If 20 boats show, that leave 10 wild card spots. If in your senerio 5 had already qualified and were in the top ten spots we would continue down from there, but if of the 5 that had already qualified 2 came in on the top ten then we would work down to #12. Basically it is total # / 2 - double qualifiers in top half, if that makes sense. Yes Lake Michigan wil be open.
