Yes, congrads to John and Justin.
Many were upset about the whole boat issue and it is understandable, this was the reason why we were making sure we had over 50 boats for the classic. Before the classic we had 54-58 boats that had said they would be at the classic + 7 of the directors. This would have allowed for a boat to be paid out; as the pre-fishing went on a few boats left and a few did not come because of the rumors saying that no boat was going to be given out.
This upsets me because if the people would have stayed Justin and John would have won a boat instead. Some are already saying that BAU will not be around next year. To this I will say at this point again the rumors are already starting to come out.
So lets set the record straight, BAU is now under new management and all of the things that happened last year and this are over and there is nothing that can be done about them. What I will say is that a new format is going to be inplace next year to prevent what happened at the classic from happening next year. Confirmation of these will appear when the new fliers are released.
1. 3 tournaments per division (must pre registar for all 3 - $300) or pay an additional $25 per event at day of tournament - $375
2. Point system for tournments 100 for 1st 99 for 2nd and so on this will keep everyone in contention for the classic on all 3 events.
3. Payment and commitment at 3rd event for the classic - This will prevent anyone from bailing out of classic as they have already paid to fish.
They rules are being changed and for the better, I am just as displeased as everyone was at no boat at the classic but to defend the decision was based off the offical entry that everyone signed and it states clearly that a boat will be paid with 50 qualifing boats at the classic. |

Thanks guys! It was a tough bite up there! I think that played out for us because we were catching them and a lot of boats came through our area but didn't get bit. Too bad for no boat though it made me not want to fish but Justin kept us in despite his negativity You need to have that attitude all the time it appears!
See some of you this weekend on the Joe |

| It was funny John we had 2 keepers in 20 minutes and then nothing so we move to another spot and on my 1st cast we have the 3rd keeper and then nothing, move again and then on the 1st or 2nd cast a little fish. I must have caught 6 small fish between 10-13" and the ones we caught were only 1 1/2 - 2 lbs we can not even say we had a good one on. I will say that everything that bite we got in the boat. Last year we lost 6 fish that were in the 4 lb range and could not keep them hooked, so we have figured out how to keep them on. Now we just need to get bite by bigger fish. |

It was an awesome tournament for John and I. We found some nice fish during practice last saturday so we fished that area all day. I used my Aqua View to find grass and wood in deep water. We keyed in on those spots for the first half of the day. John caught two fish with a worm and I had a good one on but only for a couple secs before it pulled free. We fished around for another hour without a bite so we started to move shallow. I made a cast by a boulder and set the hook on the biggest smallie I've ever had on. Pri 24 inches and around 6 to 7 pounds depending how much it had eaten. I fought it all the way to the motor when the hook just slid out of its mouth. I was done at that point. I thought for sure I had lost the tournament. But thank God John and his positive attitude were in the boat. Some how he brought me back to life and I managed to put two nice smallies in the box. With 30 minutes of fishing time left we needed one more bite to have a chance. We were fishing around when the ND fight song started playing because my wife was calling. Right when I answered the phone John yelled, "Justin!!! It's a good one." His rod was doubled over and he horsed a five pounder to the boat. After I netted it we were jumping around and going crazy. We though it in the well and headed to the weigh-in. It was an awesome and memerable day that brought huge emotional swings. After we had won I wasn't as happy as I thought I should have been because I could only think about not winning the boat.

| Guys awesome job i feel your pain no boat sucks but good thing we stayed in and won some money. I had an emotional day just like you guys. I caught a good 4lber in the first 20 minutes. then i bombed for the better part of the day. finally about 1pm i got another 4.5lber in theboat and started to put something togather. i kinda followed the fish up and culled up to 14.5 which really made my trip. i had a terrible practice i knewi was around fish as i seen them down there on the aquaview but just couldnt really get them to bite. i caught my 2 big ones deep (15-20) then the rest in 4-8ft. dropshotting a Nemisis Baits 3" Goby and Extreme bass tackle 4" tubes jig. That put me in 4th placeand happy. we beat some really good fisherman guys awesome job!-skeeterman- |

Good job guys, sounds like you had a good time. Bummer about the boat but hopefully you still got a good check. I didn't realize you had to pay to fish the classic, I figured if you qualified then you went and fished. I think it'd be better to work that cost into the qualifiers and then if you invite 50 guys to fish for a boat there is no entry fee. Oh well, more fun than sitting in a tree losing blood to the mosquitos like I have been doing, come on frost.
Scott.

Kind of late to post on this topic but I just realized I never congradulated you guys on your win. I must say you two earned alot of respect from myself and many others with that dominating win. I knew justin and john were the best sticks in this area but winning up at leelanau against many of the best fisherman in MI says alot, maybe its time you guys start fishing some bigger events? Figures that you finally win a tournament like that and get $4000 instead of a $26000 boat that was promised, what a joke. Also phil had an excellent day finishing 4th, he figured it out also when most of the field could not including us.
We had a bad practice and as expected had a bad tournament. It was a big mistake not spending enough time deep since they were obviously not shallow until about the last two hours of the tournament. It didnt help that I forgot my dam camera, ill never do that again we could of really used it thats for sure. We fished 3-10 ft all day and actually watched the smallmouth move up on the flats at about 1-1:30PM. We were skunked until then when we put 3 in the boat sightfishing, but thats all we could manage they were very spooky. Even super longgg casts and dragging with 6lb line would not produce. We must have seen over 100 in the last hour and a half of the day, and many of them were monsters but just wouldnt bite. I would say hopefully we can do better next year but I doubt BAU can survive the reputation they now own.
