I was all set to buy a couple hundred dollars worth of these until I read somewhere that the way to set the hook with these is like using a drop shot, just to start reeling! I'd rather not catch anything if I can't set the hook. Honestly, when your watching bass fishing on TV is that not the best part when they reel down and like put their foot against the side of the boat and jerk the fish half way to the boat, that is sweet. O.K. maybe the "I'd rather not catch anything" line isn't 100% true but you get the point.
Scott.

Use it to sight fish. Its equally enjoyable watching a bass react and eat a bait. And you can still set the hook as hard as your line allows you to.
I still put the hammer down when I fish it, you just don't have to if you don't want to.

| Yeah it's a thing you can do if you prefer. These baits work and rather you want to set the hook on them or just start reeling you're going to see a difference in the amount of fish you catch. |

I hear what both of you are saying. Truth be known I'm just ready to fish and am trying to strike up some conversation/debate. I do love a good hookset though. I remember a few years ago BASS would have people vote on the best hookset from their TV coverage. The one I remember was Hackney, I think, actually jumping in the air on the hookset. Picture this: a guy is fishing a jig lets say, upon feeling a bite he actually lays the rod down, pulls out some of that talc powder the weight lifters use, puts some on his hands, does some stretching by putting his right hand over his left shoulder and pushing up on his elbow and vice versa, puts his arms down and kinda shakes them to loosen them up and then picks the rod back up and sticks the fish with a monster hookset. Now that would make for some great T.V. I gotta stop, I'm about to get out the ice auger and flippin stick and head to the lake. Come on Spring!

Yeh I know, I'm just trying to get some conversation going on here. I think cabin fever is setting in and I'm about to snap. We should start a pool on when the first day is that a boat can be launched on Paw Paw lake. Anybody care to start it off? Oh yeh it has to be your boat, or at least not mine.
Scott.

Was 31 pounds a one time thing or can he bring in comparable sacks every time. I fish at Paw Paw a bunch and win a bunch out there, 31 pounds, WOW!!!! The best weight I've caught was around 24 pounds last spring during the catch and release season. The best tourny weight I've had was 19 lbs.
I would love to go out there with your dad's buddy and pick his brain. PM me his number.
I use to think I knew a lot about Paw Paw but 31 pounds. I need a piece of that action.
Justin

Everytime I fish with my buddies from Jackson we have a hookset award. The best hookset on the day gets $5.00. It makes fishing extra fun.

Thats what I'm talking about, too bad you couldn't get some kinda bonus points at the weight in for the best hookset. Lets be serious though, all of us know what it takes to catch fish around here but talk like this is fun to make the time pass. I'm sure I'll probably have some of these worms soon enough but in the mean time this is quality entertainment.
