| Me and skeeterman are leaving for Grand Lake today for 4 days and meeting up with 16 other guys for a smallmouth bass fishing bonanza and lots of beeeeeeer. Should be a good time everyone throws in for big bass each day and gets to wear the special big bass hat the following day for being king. Will make a report when we get back, hopefully the weather does not get to ugly on us up there.

| Grand is kind of different to any other lakes I have fished up there. It is shallow with the deepest water we found at 22 feet and almost all of the shoreline has rock or gravel so it seemed to spread them out more than normal. The water clarity was 4 feet or less and there was not much spawning activity but some (sight fishing was extreemly tough). Of course we hit it on a bad week, the females were few and far between and no bigguns were cought by anyone for the three days we were up there. The fact that most guys only fished a few hours due to the extreeeeeeem winds we dealt with for two of the days probably was a large factor. Two boats sank from takeing on too much water and one boat sank twice but luckily this happened when they got back to the dock. Brian McCarter's new skeeter's trolling motor burned up within the first hour of the first day and his motor took a chit the following morning. The winds were crazy bad, thursday probably sustained at 25-30 but more gusty up to 40+, friday was relatively calm in the morning and kicked up to 20-25 for the rest of the day, sat was insane with sustained winds 30-40 and kicking up a few notches later in the day. We were the only boat crazy enough to fish sat and we put 10-12 hours in each day which was more than everyone but Chris. Phil won big bass friday and sat and had big for the week at 4-7 taking $550 total. I had big bass thursday with a 3-9 largie until chris harrison went back out with a few hours of daylight left to top me with a 4-2. Our boat had the most success due to fishing regardless of weather and Phils nack for finding fish. Thursday we probably put 60-70 males (nothing over 3-9) in the boat mostly burning spinnerbaits, friday over 40 mostly on tubes and a handfull of 4 pounders, saturday we cought about 30 on tubes and jerkbaits and had 6 that were 4 or better. Wrong timing but still a good time, this week grand lake should be on fire with the spawn in full swing.

| Winds sucked this weekend. We went to St Clair and fought the wind for 3 days. It was only decent in the morning until about 9 am, then it just got nuts. Friday it was out of the East and Sat and Sun it was SW and NW but it was still too strong to fish effectively even with drift socks out. We fished 12-13 hours a day Fri and Sat and 5 hours on Sunday before leaving. We caught fish, but not like in years past when the wind was reasonable.
