Help with bank fishing...

Hello everybody!!
I have been fishing for about a year now. My Son Loves it and can not get enough. We have become obsessed with fishing since last summer and we do not have a boat nor do we have the funding at this time. He is almost 5 and we usually fish Round and Magician lakes (wade in) we would love to catch Bass but will settle for panfish (happily). My question is where would you suggest we go to fishing that is different where I can continue to keep his interest? Any advice is much appreciated...If you have any tackle recommendations we're listening. Laughing

Vic, you may wanna check out the piers right now. This time of year I hear the coho and browns can be caught there. I don't know alot about it but plan on trying to learn more this spring. If your interested I'd recommend just going down and checking it out. There is usually someone fishing down there. Another option may be Pipestone lake which has a small area to bank fish. Follow Meadowbrook road across M-140 to the curve and take a left. Good luck.

My suggestion is to go to the piers in St. Joe during the summer. You can ask Justin a few of us go out into the main lake to hunt down smallies but every now and then when they come back in you will find me fishing the piers for smallies, I typically use a flick shake worm or a tube.

There is a spot in Berrien Springs called Oronoko Lakes. This is a pay to fish private lake. There is good fishing for pan fish and bass, but you cannot keep the bass. You can rent a boat, fish from some docks, or just fish from the bank. There are also some picnic provisions. The area usually has a kids fishing day held on this lake in the summer.

I second the Oronoko Lake idea. I have been there quite a bit when I was younger, and we had some of our best days ever out there. Catch a bluegill about 3 inches long, put it on a 4/0 hook about 5 feet under a big red bobber, toss it out off the end of the pier. Hold on, it'll be big when the bobber disappears!!!

Pier in St. Joe or New Buffalo, Grand Mere Lake (Stevensville) I use to shore fish there as a kid. Your best bet would be Oronoko Lake.
