I fished with my father from 8:00 am to 11:30. It was windy, windy, windy, and the temp dropped thoughout the morning. The lake temp was 59 degrees and the bass were very aggressive. I saw squad Minnow at the boat ramp and he hooked us up with some Jackall Flick Shakes to use. They did a pretty awesome job too. We caught a bunch of solid largies just casting towards crusing fish in the shallows. I tried them on a couple spawning smallies but I could never get the hook into their mouths. They work fine catching spawning largies as I landed one 4 pound toad.

The wind sucked but not having a trolling motor in the wind sucked even worse. My cable broke after only an hour of fishing so we had to throw out the drift sock and drift the flats. While we were drifting I saw at least 20 smallie beds that had toads on them. I'm talking 2.5 pound males paired with 3-5 pound females. I caught two that weighed close to five pounds but because we could only drift by them they were tough to catch in the wind. It almost reminded me of Lake St. Clair. I've never seen that many spawning toad smallies on Magician before.

We also saw crawdaddy1 fishing around and having some fun on the water today. Overall my father and I ended up catching at least 20 bass, 1/2 smalles and 1/2 largies. Our best five was pushing 20 pounds.

Justin

I was also out on Magician, but I was there thursday thru sunday (5/1-5/4). The weather was a lot better than predicted so I can't complain. Caught a ton of fish throughout the week, split half and half largies and smallies. Most all of the fish I caught were out on flats roaming around, I also caught a few on beds. Saw a couple of monsters that I couldn't get to hit. Caught pretty much all my fish on a soft plastic crawfish or jig. Once I moved back into the channel on sunday I found out that there was a ton of good size largemouth bedding. They key to catching both types of fish was to find the flat that had the most rocks around it, and was between 5-7 feet.

I found that when ever I found a crusier I was able to catch it with a Flick Shake, I used 4.8" with 3/32 oz head and was able to catch every one that I seen. I did not spend to much time fishing bedders as I was using a new Giron (color) to see what type of results I could get from it.
