I read a article about swim baits in this months issue of Field & Stream. They where really playing them up saying that they will probably take over spinners as a go to lure. Has anyone used these much? How do you like them? I am thinking about trying some out this year.

Everybody is going to be trying them out around here this year, so maybe the spinnerbait will be the secret lure this year!!! Seriously, they will fit the mold in the right applications, as with any other lure. The bigger swimbaits will obviously stand a better chance of pulling bigger fish, at the cost of fewer fish, and you obviously have to know where the bigger ones are to drop it in front of them. Good luck and let us know how it goes. I think we should use this page or make another one where we post results on each swimbait we use and how they end up working out for us. Just an idea.

While in Kentucky last weekend, I had the opportunity to test the silly rabbit by Poorboy's, the Money Minnow, and the Basstrix. The silly rabbit was in 6 inch and both the mm and basstrix were the smaller version. The key to these baits is to throw them with a weighted hook and the weight HAS to be on the belly of the hook as opposed to near the line tie. Although I liked the idea of the smaller versions, they didn't have near the action as the 6 inch. I really think that if you can get over the size of the bait, the 6 inch swimbaits can really make an impact in your fishing. Even here in michigan. In the water they don't look that big and I often catch fish on a 5 inch senko.
Also, I was able to catch a fish on the swimbait with very minimal casts. The funny thing was, the bass was only about 12 inches and it ate the 6 inch silly rabbit. |
