Ok guys, looking into getting a rod that is basically dedicated to fishing topwater prop baits, poppers, & walking body baits... Most of my fishing would be done on the Joe, specifically Lake Chapin for the most part. I was looking at the Loomis 6' GL3 casting rod in medium action rated for 8-14 pound test. I was also looking at the 5'10" Bronzeback casting rod. Anyone use either of these rods? What do you think? Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance guys...
Kory

| I use the G Loomis bronzeback SMR702C-TW rod. I have not used it yet this year but it feels perfect for poppers and walking baits.

I would say go with a 6'6" rod atleast. This will give you a little more casting distance and help with that slack line on the popper and stick bait. Just my opinion though.

It's hard to find one rod that will fish all top water baits equaly. I use...
7' Medium Heavy action casting for big spooks-You really need the backbone for larger lures.
7' Medium action casting for medium Pop "R" and prop baits
7' Meduim light spinning for small skitter pops, tiny buzz baits.
If I had to pick one all purpose rod it would be a 7' Medium Action.

| I dont know how you guys use those long rods for poppers and walking baits. I have tried 7ft to 5'10" M action rods and found the 6ft or 5'10" with a short butt section to be ideal for twitching the baits directly down towards the water which seems to give those paticular baits the best action. I use a 6 ft medium spinning for finesse jerkbaits or small topwater and the 5' 10" M casting for heavier topwater baits.

Actually, I don't think I've ever tried a different rod I'll have to give a different rod a go around and compare them.

| I'm with you T.Cook, I actually break out the old pistol grip if I'm on a good topwater bite. I'f I'm just fooling around and decide to tye a popper on, then I will resort to my 6'6" jerkbait rod that also has a shorter than average handle! |
