I found pre spawn fish and a couple spawning fish on the river. The water temp was 6o degrees. My best bait was a small plastic fished slow in eddies.

I saw a ton of bass spawning on Magician and Lake of the Woods. Males and females were up rolling on each other over the beds but we left many of them alone and fished for prespawn fish, had to catch a couple though. I'm sure the weather will push the next wave of fish back a little though.

I second what fishman said! we went to Magician on Sunday and there are tons of spawing bass. We even saw a couple around the 5-6 pound mark. we had a pretty good day fiching the pre-spawners landing about 8 or so would be keepers the most in the 3 lbs range. had fun catching a boat full of pike to!

We might have seen you out there then I was in the blue Skeeter. I caught a lot of smallmouth, you catch any of them? One of them was 24.5 inches long, my longest smallie yet and filled with food and eggs. The fish appeared to have a crawdad hanging out of its mouth. A lot of spawning smallmouth there, hopefully its a great smallmouth lake in a couple of years.

you know i may have seen you but hell i was more tuned into fishing then watching other boats lol Very Happy! we didn't catch many smallmouth though only a few (2-3) and i don't remember but i don't believe they would have been keepers. we really didn't do much measuring or anything strickly catch and get back in the water as soon as possible. we did take a picture or 2 of a couple nice 3 pounders though.

I'm not sure I think something happened with my scale but it may have been right because it read 6 pounds 10 ounces but it didn't look as big as that one Ron Nelson caught in Lake Michigan last fall. I'm sure it was over 6 though. My scale has always been money though but it makes me wonder on this one. I know it was bigger than the 5 1/2 I caught at the river last fall. Too bad it wasn't in a tournament then we'd know for a fact....
