I fished with Ron Nelson for 3 hours this afternoon on the Joe. We saw Jav1 and Tcook catching some toads. The water was 60 degrees on average and the fish were pre spawning heavily in a couple eddies. We caught 20-30 smallies and had 5 that weaighed 18 pounds. Our biggest was a 4 pound 8 ounce smallies that Ron caught on a jig. I caught most of my fish with a small crayfish bait.

It sounds like you guys had a pretty good day. I'm gonna have to to try there and a couple other ports if I can find the time this spring. I won't be home for two weeks so I'm going to miss the best fishing.

I was thinking New Buffalo, South Haven, or Portage.

Oh, oh... Santee Cooper, South Carolina. I think I can catch them pretty good if I get drawn with someone who takes me around some trees that have fish. I'm really fired up to go. It's really tough after the spawn so it should be tough and it should favor my technique. I'll keep you updated on how it goes.
