Nice job Tcook and Jav1 for their 2nd and 3rd place finishes in a paper tournament. Let us know how it went over there.

We started Friday by not being able to find a boat launch, which sucked. After an hour and a few explanations of where a launch wasn't, we found a private marina that would let us in since it was raining and obviously going to be slow. Cool, launching right on 11 mile.
We started drifting tubes North 1/4 mile from the masonic tent, and didn't really catch anything to be happy about, so we started moving towards the crowd. We caught a few more in 7-8 fow, but again, nothing spectacular. We moved a little more to an empty are and found a good gravel bed, where we proceeded to put some decent smallies in the boat finally. After finding 4 waypoint areas for Saturday, we had a few nice smallies in the boat, punctuated by the 5.4 pictured below.
We left as the thunder rolled in, almost snapping my trolling motor off the bow when we hit a big wave on the way in.
We lay on the deck of the boat for over an hour bolting it back on in the parking lot of Boaters World, in the rain, while the employees inside I believe laughed at us. We ended up back on the water and found the spot I would later mark with a money spot, cause they was there my friend. Saturday was a different beast, and I will post again soon.

Heres a 5-3 and a 4-12 I cought on tournament day, and thats the golden rule weight so more like 6 and 5 1/2. The fishing was unreal I fished with skip johnson and he had the winning pattern found for sure (we thought) which no one else knew about. The big females were in there good, we had many follows from giants but they just wouldnt commit or miss when they would strike so we ended up 3 ounces short of winning at 21-8 (golden rule). Total we probably cought 40 smallmouth 3-6 pounds at a 4 1/4 pound average (actual weight). This trip was priceless not just for all the fun I had but skip showed me a pattern and area that will produce every year when the water temp is right, and thats exactly what I was hoping to get out of the trip. The great thing about it is you could leave your tubes at home, because you would not be needing them here.

Jav, it actually worked out perfect to launch at that marina it was about 1/4 mile south from the best fishing on the mile roads. That saved miles of running 3-4 footers, I felt ok being the only boat willing to stay out in 25-30 mph winds and thunder rumbling in the background when we were only 1/2 mile from the truck. Cool

Those are a couple St. Clair toads. I hope I can get out there this spring!
