What's the deal down there, are they spawning yet, or what? If not, what do you look for when your targeting pre-spawn females? If they are then what types of areas are you targeting?

| I'm interested in this topic. I'm gonna be in Alabama next week and am curious as to what I should be looking for. I'm gonna be near Montgomery and will probably fish there close by (Jordan and/or Martin). I may go to one lake farther away but am not sure. I'm open to suggestions. I was on Paw Paw today and the water was about 38 degrees so I will be happy if it's warmer than that.

I live a little over a hour from Jordon and martin and the bass are moving up fast. It has been in the mid 80s everyday and the water temp is up in the mid to uper 60s. Two week ago I lost the largest bass of my life on a red trap and caught a few 5-6 lbser. Also I went back in a cove and was caughting 4lbers off beds. The spawn is alittle different in the south and I am still trying to figure it out. Justin and his wife are going to be here the first week in April and that will be the perfact time to caught gaint bass.

Rich, thanks for the info. I am definetly getting excited about coming down there. I still have some things to get ready but should be headed down Friday afternoon. Have you fished on Lake Eufala? I was curious if I can fish the whole thing with an Alabama license? It looks like it's partly in Georgia so I didn't know if they have a reciprocating license agreement or not. How about the spotted bass? Do they spawn before or after largemouth? Have you had much luck catching them? If so what type of lure seems to work? Well, I'll talk to you later.

All lakes in georgia that are on the borders of other states all you have to have is a lic from one of the states. I will be going to Eufala next week. The lakes down here are huge so you have a just pick a small spot and fish every inch to learn it. I have been down here since November and the first two - three weeks I didn't catch a fish. After talking to people there are spots you have to find cause everything looks so good but fish don't live everywhere. Also people don't give up their spots as you may know. I have about 50 spots on West Point that I can go to and sometime there is tons of fish and sometimes they are gone. You will fish 10-20 different spots before you hit some fish. Its not like paw paw where you can just jump on a band and work the whole lake. These lakes are 20-30 times the size of paw paw. So you waste alot of time efore you fish some fish, but when you do they are gaints!!!

| Rich good luck on Eufala. I am assuming that's were you and Justin are heading after seeing his post. I definetly understand about people not giving up their spots and ya can't blame them for that. I am not expecting to catch a ton of fish but will be disappointed if I don't figure something out. I'm gonna fish Jordan mostly I think and if I drive very far it'll probably be to the North, maybe Logan Martin. Well, thanks agian for the info and when I get back I'll try to put something on here if I can stand to relive it. Later.
