A couple years back when I was in collage there was a little lake called Lime Lake. I would go out just after ice off and fish around not really catching anything but dinks. One afternoon when the sun was blazing I notices the hind legs of a frog backing out of his winter hole. This was on a drop off in 15 ft of water. While I was watching a huge female slowly swam to it and sucked it out of the hole. I backed my boat off the drop off and put a weight in front of a top water toad. When it hit the bottom a huge female ate it. I fished this pattern every spring for four years. My wife actually caught a 8.5 lb bass fishing this pattern. The next time your out this spring look for frogs backing out of holes. Jig n pig combos work well if you notice this going on.
