It was a bright sunny morning on the Joe with a brisk wind blowing from the North. The lake had 8 ft waves today so everyone was locked into the river. It was tough for four of the five boats but John Gipson Sr. and John Gipson Jr. whacked'em. They came in with a very impressive sack of smallies to win today's tournament.

I fished with Mike Rappette today and we had a tough time getting on track. We burned sandbars all day long looking for a school of smallies. We caught tons of dinks but no keepers for the first five and a half hours. Finally with 20 minutes to go we found a school of bass and managed to catch one keeper. Thank goodness we didn't get skunked. I guess the bass weren't on sand bars today.

Like I said at the beginning, "Gipson Sr. and Jr slaughtered five huge smallies". They blew out the field by bringing in five smallmouth bass that weighed 17 pounds, 11 ounces. Their biggest bass was 4 pounds 6 ounces. They claim there biggest bass came off next to the boat!!!! What a day and great job.

Well, it was nice reading about how you did in the tournament and about how 1st place did, but you failed to mention who took second (which by the way myself Mike and Matt did with 2 bass). Seems like that would be worth mentioning, but instead you decided to talk about how your day was. I also think that the payouts need to be decided and made known before the tournament. I have been to other small tournaments and there was no reason $275.00 couldn't have been broken down to include more then 1st place and big bass. These tournaments are more for fun than making money and you would probably get more boats to compete if you did it differently. Just thought I would throw that idea at you to help grow future tournments. good fishing!!

Mike

You guys did a great job!! If you would like to explain how you caught your fish, feel free. I can only write about what my partner and I experienced on the water and how we caught fish. I do that for every tournament.

I asked a couple people about paying one spot before we launched and they said, "It sounded good." Your team showed up kind of at the last minute and I already made the decission to pay one spot because we only had four boats at the time. Sorry you didn't know, thats why I asked teams (In my Rules) to show up 30 min before the tournament incase there is an announcement.

Anyways, there was a team "Cliff Conley and Tony Olivier" that had three bass that didn't weigh in because I was only paying one spot. Your team would have came in third.

Also, I didn't write down all the weights and bass caught for the tournament because I was only paying one spot. I didn't want to put names down for second place because there were teams with more than two bass that didn't weigh in.

Just how i see it when Mike and Matt did show up (yes they were running a bit late) and hand over their money you should have let them know payout was only going to be for first and big fish. That would have cleared that situation up before it even started IMO anyway.

DANG it looks like Gibson Sr. and Jr. killed um out there!

I didn't collect their money, my buddy did and he gave it to me. I should have found a way to let them know though.

Sorry, I'll try not to let it happen again.

Ok, lets clear this up with no hard feelings. I am sorry Embarassed for running late that was my fault (actually matts LOL ). I probably could have asked you myself about the payouts so I am sorry for that as well. As far as me saying that we took second, I would of had no idea that anyone did better since they didn't weigh in. Everyone should weigh in if they have fish ( I know you have no control over that) but people would know how they really did in the tournment if they did and to me that is worth more than a little cash. Anyhow no hard feelings, I meant nothing in a bad way Wink

Justin, are you having a tournament tonight? I was out there yesterday and didn't see any ice yet but I'm just making sure.

Scott.

Scott,

Sorry, but I can't have anymore tournaments on Thursday nights. Our school decided to have meetings most Thursdays after school.
