July 14 – Muskegon Lake!
The Michigan Super Bass is back for 2007. NBAA and BBT Bass have once again teamed up to bring you this special event. This year is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever with several teams already signed up we’re expecting a huge turnout for this tournament. You can send in your registration and entry fee in or sign up the morning of the event at Fisherman’s Landing.

The fishing has been excellent on Muskegon Lake this season with huge bags of fish coming to the scales on a regular basis. We expect last years winners Brian Ward and Tom Sokolowski to have their hands full in defending their title. If you have any questions or comments on this years Super Bass please contact Russ at BBT (616) 875-7939 or Jack at NBAA (269) 945-9484 and we’ll see you at Muskegon Lake.

I for sure want to fish this and have the weekend open. My partner moved and I am looking for another boater that needs a co-angler. Does anyone want to team up and give this tournament a shot? My schedual is also open to prefish at any time this week. Lake Michigan is open to run as well so many options. Shoot me a PM if interested

Tim

Sometime this week...BBT will have the results.

Doug and I with the alluminum boat could only go to one place, cause of the weather. So that is where we went...up to the river. That was the hard part. The water level was down and with 2-4 footers...we could not get up on plane to get over the sandbar. So, we just lifted the motor, put down the trolling motor, and with the help from the waves and the strong winds floated over it.

When we got over the sandbar the wind just took over. We passed two large smallies and so we decided to motor back to the point and throw BOTH anchors into the water. Even with two anchors, the wind blew us past the spot where we saw the fish. I still managed to pick one of them up by fast reeling in a tube. It went 3.4lbs...our biggest fish. Then we went up against the rocks and I got 2 keepers off of them. About an hour later Doug got our 4th keeper. Then the storm really hit.

For 3 hours straight, we kept our backs to the blistering wind and hard rain. Even use the seats to keep up standing up right in the boat. When you threw the bait out with the wind...It went 25-50 yrds...NO PROBLEMO...lol.

Many times we had to readjust our position because of how hard the wind was blowing. It was stronger than the current...which is why we brought 2 anchors....and we could not belive it ourselves.

Finally once the storm broke we decided since the big lakes were rough we would just stay in the river, but took off further up the river. When the sun came out....another boat finally decided to join us. Doug caught his second keeper and our fifth and finale one. We did catch a lot of shorts mind you, but only had 5 good bites. We ended up with...I think...11.27. Winning weight and $4500 was just over 15lbs. We had 43 boats and they paid 8 spots.....We needed to get rid of the 3 15inchers to win. We only needed to get rid of 1 to cash a check...lol.

Cobra sounds like you a better day than me and my partner. We practiced for 11 hours friday and did well. I fished with Brian Shaner who did not know Muskegon well at all, but had good fish going at white. So at practice it was on me to find the fish on Muskegon. We started at my honey hole at 6:30 and I got a 3.5 largie right away and knew the fish were there so we moved to some deep water structure right off that flat. This structure is unique to the lake and the smallies are always there. I threw my tube and started dragging and bam a 3.25 smallie so we left that area alone. Then we fished many other areas and picked up 2's all over, not what we were looking for so we ran to white. We picked up 3 good ones in 15 min off his spot to confirm they were there and left. So we felt Ok about getting a 14-15 pound limit. On the way back to muskegon another guy prefishing was out of oil and dead in the water. I happened to pick up a gallon for my boater, and it was in the truck so we ran back to the launch, got the oil. Ran back out on the lake with its 4 footers and gave it to him. That was our good deed for the day and he slipped us a benjamin.

On tournament day the weather was up there with the worst I ever seen. The wind was so intense you could not hold in any spot even protected areas. I heard some guys ran in that, no way. I heard there were 10 footers crashing into the pier heads. We threw an anchor and put the trolling motor on high and still could not hold our position or even move forward. So our spots were unfishable. So we battled the wind for 8 hours and I cought three 2's here and there and my partner got one. I had our fifth at the boat, I said get the net (I was using 6pound test) he said nah thats small. Got it to the boat and it was a keeper. It ran and broke me off. That fish would not have mattered, but thats a bad feeling not bringing in a limit out there.

Cobra do you ever get any smallies on the walls near the pier heads, we fished it hard and only got dinks. I talked to a few guys who got some 3's and 4's out there and had some brake off. Any suggestions?

T

If you go to the walls of the piers...you have to hit that the first thing...kinda like going up the river....first thing in the morning. Hit the outsides first then work your way in. There are some nice ones that gather along the sides of the walls.

I just wish I could have gotten up there.

With 11.25 we ended up 21st.....oh well.
