Me and 1Jav fished this as it was the 4th event out of 5 qualifiers this year. Our goal was to make the top 20 so we could give ourselves a chance at making the classic with a good finish at the Grand River. We have about 65 points to gain in two events to make the 25% cut. This is a long shot to say the least but we know there is a chance, and how great would that be being our first year tournament fishing and against that level of competition.

Friday we got to the launch at about 6:30PM to practice, this is all we could manage with our work schedual. We went out searching deep water for rock piles and wood, hoping to find some smallmouth that would be all to ourselves. We got some good waypoints and cought two 2.5-3's.

On tournament day we cought 2 small keepers early and the action died. We called a buddy who went to mona and decided to join him. Bad decision since we never been there. We got there fished for 15 min and thought we were wasting time so we ran back to muskegon. I told Jav lets fish that deep structure we cought our fish on when we ran from White 2 weeks ago. It is exactly the same time of day and the same weather when they turned on and smallies are always there. Well this spot was on again but the fish were bigger and more smallies this time. There is only one bait with a specific technique that we can get bit there which will remain secret. These bass only bit from 11-1 the same two weeks ago and only with this technique hmmm. We ended up catching 15 keepers losing only 1 which was about 2.5 pounds but was too small anyways. In the 2 hour period we cought 5 smallmouth and 10 largemouth keepers, the largest 3 were all smallmouth, biggest about 3.5 pounds. Once again we culled for two hours and the bass got bigger throughout the day until the bite shut off at 1PM. One of these days we will find out how to catch a kicker, but the big fish continue to elude us when it counts Crying or Very sad

We estamated our bag at 15 pounds and thought we could be in the top 5. But the weather was perfect for running, and running is what all the top bags did according to Frank from Red Dragon who knows all those guys. There were two bags just under 18 pounds, Bleeker and Bowman squeeked out the win by .02 of a pound. We ended up finishing 10th out of 80 boats or so with 14.35 pounds. That XTools scale was off a bit. So mission accomplished we got 91 points and $190.

Nice Job!!!

You two are really starting to improve in a hurry. I like how you set goals for yourself. Sometimes kicker fish are lucky. I usually start tournaments fishing for the kicker fish. If I catch her there is a chance I might finish high. If I don't, I look for what ever I can scrap together to get points.

Good for you, glad you guys had a good day. (You might want to check on the use of that cell phone during tournament hours though.)

Keep up the good work.

I have fished State and Nothern Divisional B.A.S.S. Tournements. In those tournements you would be disquallified for using your cell phone.

BBT does not have any rules on the use of Cell phones:

Interpretation and enforcement of the following rules shall be left exclusively to the tournament director. In the event of a rule violation, the tournament director may impose such sanctions, as he deems appropriate.

1. There is a one-time yearly membership fee of $20.00 per person. This must also be paid by all subs.

2. Entry fee is $100.00 per boat, fishing team or single. Payback is 90%. The Classic fund will receive $20.00 per entry. The payback will be $70.00 per boat. We will pay back 1 spot for every 5 boats. On a field of 50 boats or more, we will guarantee $1,150.00 for first place.

3. Entries will be received as a team entry or single entry. If you enter to fish singly, you must do so for all 5 Classic qualifiers to retain your points. If you enter as a team, you will be allowed to use one sub per season per team, or you may fish alone. Everyone must check in prior to the pre tournament meeting. You must decide on your team or single classification on your first entry.

4. There will be a 5 fish limit of bass, largemouth or smallmouth, whether you are fishing as a team or singly. Fish must be 14" or longer, mouth closed. Short fish are thrown back along with your biggest fish. Dead fish are penalized 4 ounces (.250 in hundreths). You must cull down to 5 fish before moving with your combustion motor.

5. Total weight determines the winning team. We will use Big Bass as a tiebreaker for total weight, and total weight as a tiebreaker for Big Bass.

6. Lake Michigan will be open water as long as weather permits. Off limits will be set at the pre tournament meeting. You may not fish within 50 yards of a gas dock or of a competitor’s boat if it is anchored (trolling motor up and anchor down).

7. We will use a 100-point system. First = 100 points, second = 99 points, etc. Total points as the end of the 5th Classic qualifier will determine the final standings. We will average the entrants in the 5 classic qualifiers and the top 25% will be invited to the classic. Any boat that fished team or single in all 5 Classic qualifiers will go into a drawing for the wildcard team to attend the Classic. The #1 team of the year will draw that boat #. Any team fishing all five Classic qualifiers will receive 20 bonus points.

8. The Classic location will be announced at the end of the 5th qualifier. This body of water will be off limits until the day prior to the Classic date. The day prior to the classic will be an optional practice day (safe conditions until 3:00 PM), with an optional big bass pot.

9. Anglers must practice a high level of sportsmanship, safety and courtesy during tournament hours. No alcohol or drugs are to be used during tournament hours (until after paychecks are awarded). This is an automatic disqualification.

10. Any violation of Federal, State or Local Laws is an automatic disqualification. Observation of no wake zones and having proper safety equipment are your responsibility. NO WAKE NO PASS

11. At least one member of each team must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Each team member or single angler must complete and sign the entry form and pay the entry fee.

12. Big Bass is optional and will be paid back 100%. 60% to first place and 40% to second place.

13. Approved life vests must be worn while moving with the combustion engine.

14. Kill switches must be used when the combustion engine is running.

15. Only one rod & reel (8 ft. Maximum length) may be used at a time. Artificial lures only - except pork strips. No trolling.

16. The horsepower of the outboard motor must not exceed the boat (bia) rating. All boats shall have the required Coast Guard safety equipment, functional kill switch, live well with aeration system.

17. You must leave and return to the tournament site by boat. If you break down, one person from the team may return in another contestant’s boat with the fish to be weighed in.

18. MANDATORY - all boats must check in at the end of each tournament. It is your responsibility to find the check in person. You must check in by 3:00 P.M. , first flight, 3:15 P.M. second flight, not after you load up or while you are weighing in even if you have no fish to weigh. If you do not check in on time, you are disqualified for that event and forfeit your 20 bonus points. Do not bring up fish to be weighed until called for.

19. Any PROTEST must be made within 10 minutes of the scales closing.

B.A.S.S. is much more restrictive. You are not allowed to even talk to a non competitor on the water about fishing. You are required to tell them you are in a tournement and cannot get outside information from anyone. Bigger tournement more rules... not a bad rule in my opinion though.

Well let me put it this way if there was a rule about using a cell phone in the BBT and they disqualified us, it wouldnt bother me one bit. I didnt know and didnt cheat. I would simply never fish that circuit ever again and move on to a different one, there are plenty of tournaments out there. I would think that keeping as many boats as possible is whats important to the BBT. We only called our buddy to ask how far it was south and how he went about getting into mona with the 1 foot sand bar. Thanks for your concern.

I have a question for you guys though, why dont any of you ever report on how your tounaments go or any outings for that matter? I think I am starting to understand that bass fishing is also a battle of secrecy. I think I will stay tight lipped from here on out.

I think the "no use" of cell phone is probably more common than you might think.

In regards to posting other tourney results...the few times I do good, it kinda seems like bragging to me. I won the 4 Flags Diamond tourney with Jim W. a while back - drop shot in 30 FOW. We haven't fished any of the rest of their stuff.

Last Thursday @ 6 Span I'ld guess we were top 10 but not in the $.( D. Rohrer won it with 14 1/2#) I think only 28 boats showed up.

Last Tuesday I really stunk it up - 1 fish @ Baldwin, 30 boats I think. Not sure who won, it took around 10 1/2# I think. I MADE BAD CHOICES THAT NIGHT!

On Thursdays with Jim W. I think we're currently 14th out of 40.
On Tuesdays with Jim C. I think we're 12th out of 40ish also.

Need a good week both nights this week as we're nearing the end.....

I have been sucking this year....that is why you wont see a post about any of my outings.....lol. No one wants to show others what not to use...lol.

Plus there are not to many on here that fish the lakes I fish. So it wouldn't do anyone any good anyways.

But hey, thanks for asking. If ya ever want to know how chitty chitty bang bang my fishing was ask me...I will tell ya...but not to everyone...lmao...I do have my pride...NOT!!....lol
