Ok, we all know Lake Diane sucks (on here you might not know about Lake Diane) ....But there are some BIG fish in it. Not so this year.
We had only 8 boats for the Monday Night tournament. Doug and I went out to a new spot on the lake and found another tournament angler in the area. So, we started on the other side of the finger and slowly worked our way around towards each other. They were power fishing and we were slowly going our own way. When they got up to us they complained how bad the lake was and that they hoped it will not be on the schedule next year. Well, when we got around the corner and they could not see us, Doug was going to go on the outside of this island (that is for sale), I threw up to the bank on the inside of the island with a green pumpkin tube. My first bite of the evening(6:20pm), it was a good solid 2lbr. We kept on fishing these fingers in the lower part of the lake with no other luck or bites. Saw that it was 7:30 and the NO HIGH SPEED was in affect, we headed back up. We passed the boat with the guys who complained and started to go into another cove. Doug wanted to start at the mouth, which is something we have never done here. We got up to the first boat dock and Doug got caught on a stump. I was now throwing out a small 3/8 black jig with a dark green w/purple fleck trailer at the boat. Right when we started to go towrds Doug's hang up, I felt a light bite. BANG, I set the hook on my second bit of the night a 3lbr. We know have 2 fish on 2 bites with 2 different baits. We ventured futher into the cove, when those guys came in and passed us. We just missed our opportunity to get another in the boat when a giant ate a big gill in front of us. We went in further and passed them again. As they were leaving and we were slowly heading out, Doug was once again pre-occupied and I hooked up with our 3rd bite of the day and our last but not least fish in the boat. This time I was throwing a green pumpkin senko, wacky rigged with a 3/0 red hook.
The 3lbr was my very first bass on a jig, and ended up as big bass of the tournament. We also won the event with over 6lbs. I am so glad that Doug drove me around and netted my fish...lol. He blanked so bad that he did not even hook up with a junk fish. I was hoping to see him catch atleast a rock bass or something like that. But to be honest, one team caught the most fish at 6, but only had 1 to weigh in. The bite was tough and LIGHT.
Oh, only 4 boats came in with fish. 2nd place had 3, 3rd place had 2 and 4th had 1.
Will post results when Doug gets them up on the website
Our first win of the season. |
