Yay, fishing Paw Paw Lake.
Boo, 1 stinking fish that went 15" and lots more rain than I expected.
Started about 6:30am from Coloma in a good rain. I started with a black booyah buzzbait and caught the 15 incher in the channels in the first 10 minutes. Ok, good start, it's going to be a good day. We worked out of the channels and up the west shoreline fishing the deep weed edge and buzzbaits over top of the weeds. Tried senkos under a few docks before reaching the hole by where the 2 channels enter the lake. Felt like I may have missed setting the hook on a fish that I thought was weeds. Still not sure, should have set the hook instead of "feeling" for the fish. Marked some fish in the hole, tried a white Bomber Flat A, tried a silver blade bait, stick bait, nothing. Worked down the upwind side of the long point, nothing. Trolled off the point to the south shoreline point. Nothing. Made a run to the NE end of the lake starting at the sandy point on the north shore. Skipped the large docks on north and south side near the east launch. Nothing. Ran back to the channels, fished a frog through all the lillypads, nothing. Fished a senko along the drops in the channels going back towards the launch. May have missed another fish that I tried to "feel" instead of just setting the hook. And done.
I'm not sure if the lake could have turned over already. Water temp was around 60-62 but I didn't see a thermocline show up on my sonar, but is on automatic setting. The channels seemed to be a bit murky as well. Looking back, probably could have caught some under docks with quicker hooksets if I wasn't trying to fish places where all 3 of us would have a chance to fish. What should I have been doing?

| you should have been fishing very slow, or targeted other species.

| Actually I would start throwing jerkbaits especially one that I cannot devulge because it might put my life at risk.

| I'll have to give the jerkbait a try next time. I haven't had much luck on a jerkbait at Paw Paw the few times I've tried one. I've had a lot of success on a clown colored size 8 x-Rap the past couple years in other lakes. Is clown a good color there or is silver/black better?

Never a good idea to put one's life at risk. Good thinking. Guess you could always buy one of those big 3 foot rapalas and convince the Chicago folk you are fishing for the shark they let go in the lake a few years ago. Imagine the look on their face!!!

| I would probably have the same results using a 3 foot rapala as anything else lately. Maybe I could convince a monster pike to try for it. Do you think a 7' medium action spinning rod with 8lb fluro is a good set up for casting that rapala?
