Have heard and read good things about sunline products, and bad things about the newest sunline products, but have decided to try it for myself. Should be getting my order next week, so will be going to Indiana to try it out on some hopefully cooperative cold water bass. I read that Toray actually produces the flourocarbon for them, then they do what they do to make it their own, but after looking at the price of your Toray products Rich, I'm not willing to spend that much. Not right now atleast, so we'll see how the Sunline holds up. I'll let you know in a week or so.

Just curious as to how much the two lines cost. Is the Sunline around 20 bucks for 120 yards? How much for the Toray?

One of the guys I fish with use sunline and they really like it. You shouldn't have any problems with it. Good luck.

the Toray was around 30-35 a spool, enough to do one reel or maybe two if you back it. The Sunline is 17-20 for 200 yards, the Sniper that is. I'll let you know what I think, but for the price, I was swayed by the results on Tackletour. They did a pretty extensive test, and shooter was by far one of the best, so I went with Sniper, the supple version. Should be easier on spinning gear also.

Well lets get the record straight. There are only 3 companies that make true fluorocarbon lines and they are.
1. SunLine - Based in Japan
2. Toray - Based in Japan
3. Kureha of Japan - factory in Germany

All other companies have to get thier product by them, the problem is that they do not want to pay the high price so that is the reason most flouorocarbons have a bad rap as they are not true Japanese based and produced. There is much more that I can tell you on this but it is kinda of dry so I will skip that unless I see you on the water and you wish to know more.

So everyone is always talking about BPS XPS and how great it is and I will not knock the line as I know what company makes it. Again the problem is that it is not a 3rd generation fishing line it is along the lines of a 1st or 2nd, as the manufactuers get better they develop better technologies. So lets talk about the $15-20 spool fishing lines at 200M well here is the problem do the math and you are getting the $8-10 per 100M and if that is the case you might has well be using anything but SunLine as it is the stuff it sells as 2nd and 3rd branding. Now if you tell me that your buying the $30 150M (I forget what SunLine calls it - Shooter maybe?) then your starting to compare apples with apples. Toray I am very familiar with and have been using for over 5 years now and I will tell you this (1 spool will cost about $32-$37 for 150M but now do the math with that spool you can fill 2 spools ---Yes that is correct - 75M in each if you look for the red line that is all the fluorocarbon that you need and want on a spool because contrary to belief less is better for 2 reasons.) 1. you will have less memory as the line is being utilized 2. Fluorocarbons are a heavy line.

Now with all that being said we talked earlier about why to only by from a true fluorocarbon maker and they is the best reason. The line does not dryrot, yes every other line in your boat will rot with the exception to the ones listed above, all are good but I always question what ones are being released in the US. I personally only want the true Japanese lines that are still written in Japanese that is because I know it is the good stuff.

I did not even get into the stretch that most other lines have, yes all lines have it regardless of what you have heard but there are only 3 lines that have a max of 8% regardless of wet or dry and I bet by now you can all guess who makes those lines.

Yes I am connected with Toray and I am very happy and proud of the line that they have brought over to the US and I will be willing to help any of you out on determining what lines to use. I know that Toray is hard to get over here in this part of the country and I am working on at least getting a few dealers so that if you become a believer you can get it. Right now you can order at BJ's Sporting Goods anything you want.

So if anyone has any questions on Sun, Toray or Seagar let me know and I will try to help you make a wise decision based on the technique and the brand you wish to use.

Rich

John,

Toray is priced close to this.

$12 - Hi-Class 200M -25% stretch 4-20lb sold in 1&2 lb increments
$26-$33 - Upgrade 7% stretch 150M 3-20lb in 1lb increments
$31-$37 - Superfinnese 7% stretch 100M - 2-6lb in 1/2 lb increments

I do not know how these compare to Sunline, if anyone has the names and pricing I can probably get one of my Japanese friends to figure that out or you can probably use the prices above with the yard to determine if they are the same. and the same for Seagar.

Remember that in the US we are the only ones that complain about the high price of fishing line that is why they created the $12 spools. Do not get me wrong I hate spending money on things for the name also but if you try one of the top end line you to will become a believer.

Rich

I have tried them all and to be honest Sunline is really good but for the money there is no beating the Trilene 100 percent fluorocarbon. There is no line stronger. The diameter is a little bigger, but you can drop down one line size and still be ok. I dropshot with 6 lbs. all summer long. I even fish up north with 6 lb. never had an issue. It is the only line that I have never broken a fish off. I will even fish docks with it using 8lb test, no problem. It really is a good line that you can fill a reel for less than 10 bucks.

just cause it says 6 pound doesn't mean it's 6 lb. There's no regulations for what a line manufacturer says when it comes to that, so unless it says IGFA (I believe) rated it doesn't mean squat. I can put 10 pound diameter line in a box and say it is 6 pound, who can disclaim me??? Get what I'm saying??
