I'm heading to Wawasee to prefish for a tournament on Sunday. I'll let you know how it goes.

I found one channel that was loaded with Keeper size to 3 lb bass but none of them were biting. They were suning themselves and getting ready to move up on beds.
I caught one nice 3 lb smallie off a long point in Johnson bay along with a decent largie. I caugh them both with a rootbeer colored crankbait.
I caught 5 other smallies that were barely keepers just of a rock flat in 21 ft of water using a gold blade. There were a bunch of smallies cruzing the flat but they wouldn't bite:(
The water temp on the north side of Wawasee was 54 degrees, it was 57 in Johnson bay, and 60 in the back of the channels. Where I caught my smallies the water temp was only 49 degrees.
The bad news is....I didn't find any fish that will put me in the money
Looks like I'll have to get lucky Sunday.

Maybe I wasn't fishing the right lake because my dad and I couldn't put anything together Sunday. Every spot I thought was good turned out to be a community hole. Fish were being caught from them too. I saw at least one boat catch a limit while I was watching. You really had to be right on the spot. We retreated to the channels after 4 hours without a keeper. There were males on beds and females sliding around in deeper water. I fished for one 4 pound female for about an hour but I couldn't get her to go. My dad was getting frustrated while I was fishing channels so he talked me into fish flats again. We caught 4 keeps from Syracuse off a flat to end the day. I knew they weren't going to place so I let them go and watched the weigh-in.
14 pounds won
Mangus-12.5 pounds
Nelsons-11.5 pounds

| Wawasee is a tough nut to crack if you dont fish there all the time! I know alot of guys that love it and alot that hate it. Its another Maxi. Some love it and some hate it. Obviously you had some good comp there Mangus was second was Mark Snyder and Trent Withrow 1st those guys are sticks there good luck making 3rd either if they show up. I fished Maxi this weekend and it was kinda the same. ( I give my boys 1Jav and TCook mad props) you got me. well we still got our buts beats but good job guys. Im not gonna laminate on the story but it was a rough day for me, one hook up and it was over. oh well thats why its fishing and not catching. mad props Tad. congrats.-skeeterman- |
